Will non-stick pan coatings cause cancer? CCTV has given the results, let's take a look

As the name implies, a non-stick pan is a pan that does not stick to the bottom. It is very common in life. Its appearance has solved the troublesome problem of many housewives washing the pan. However, there has recently been a rumor that the coating of non-stick pan is not good for health. After heating, it will produce a series of carcinogens, which can cause cancer in serious cases. Is this statement true?

Nonstick pan causes cancer? CCTV has long since dispelled the rumors. CCTV's "Life Circle" column once responded to this question and invited experts to conduct experiments. The reporter found through investigation that there are many types of non-stick pans on the market today, including high-quality non-stick pans, aluminum non-stick pans, stainless steel non-stick pans and alloy non-stick pans. The prices of these non-stick pans vary, but cheaper ones. Dozens of dollars, and expensive ones cost thousands of dollars.

Through quality inspection, it is found that some non-stick pans do not meet the national standard QB-T2421. Among the products sampled, 35% of the unqualified items are mainly concentrated in the thickness of the non-stick layer and chemical indicators. Experts said that the coating of the non-stick pan is called Teflon, which is mainly made of polytetrafluoroethylene, which is a chemically inert material. This kind of coating has good lubricity and low friction coefficient, so it is often used on non-stick cookware and other kitchen utensils. Ingestion of a small amount of non-stick pan coating will be excreted by the human body, which is harmless to health. However, it should be noted that the denaturation temperature of non-stick pan coatings is usually 260 degrees, and the decomposition temperature is 350 degrees. When the decomposition temperature is reached, fluorophosgene will be decomposed, which will cause strong irritation to the lungs. When cooking, be careful not to dry the non-stick pan. From this we can know that the non-stick pan coating itself is not carcinogenic. Only when the temperature reaches 350 degrees or more, the coating will decompose harmful substances, which will affect your health.

In the daily use of non-stick pans, there are actually many points that need to be paid attention to: when non-stick pans are newly used, they should be wiped with a damp cloth and cleaned before use. When using it, choose wooden, nylon and silicone spatulas. Metal spatulas cannot be used, as they can easily damage the non-stick coating. It is not recommended to clean the non-stick pan before it has cooled to avoid cracks or peeling of the coating due to sudden cooling from heat. When cleaning, be careful not to use steel wool or rough things to clean, so as not to scratch the coating.
